HealthWise Family Chiropractic FAQs

Have a chiropractic-related question? We have the answer. Check out these FAQs and give us a call today in St. Anthony or St. Louis Park for more information!

  • Do I Need A Referral to See a Chiropractor?

A referral is typically not required; however, you will need to check with your insurance provider to find out if your plan requires one or not.

  • What Should I Expect on the First Visit?

The first visit includes an exam, health history, and treatment. Prior to your initial appointment, you will be referred to Rayus Radiology for spinal x-rays. If you have had spinal x-rays taken in the past two years, we will request those.

  • How Long Do Appointments Take?

Initial appointments last between 60 and 90 minutes. Subsequent appointments last between 20 and 25 minutes.

  • How Often Should I Be Adjusted?

Treatment plans vary depending on each individual’s condition. We typically see patients more frequently in the beginning, and treatments are spread out more as you improve.

  • What if I Just Want to Come in Whenever I Feel I Need to and I Don’t Want to Be on a Treatment Schedule?

Your doctor will give you a treatment plan tailored to your specific condition; however, following it is ultimately up to you. If you choose to come less frequently than your doctor suggests, your improvement may be slower.

  • What Are My Payment Options?

We are in-network providers for many insurance plans. Major medical insurance covers short, acute phases of care, also known as active care. If you have questions about your chiropractic benefits, please contact your insurance provider.

We work with all auto and workers’ compensation insurance companies.

Because insurance varies on cost per visit and services covered, many patients choose our affordable time-of-service payment options.

We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Our primary concern is that our patients get the care that they need. We offer payment plans when necessary.

  • How Can I Tell if My Care Falls Under “Active” or “Maintenance” Care?

ACTIVE CARE includes relief, correction, and stabilization of a condition. This care requires frequent visits that reduce in frequency as the patient improves. A doctor-prescribed treatment plan is necessary during this care phase and treatment intervals typically do not exceed two weeks.

MAINTENANCE CARE is meant to prevent future relapses and maintain the condition after the active care phase has been completed. This is also known as wellness or preventative care. This care requires periodic checkup visits in order to prevent future relapses and/or maintain the health status that was achieved during active care. Maintenance care visits are usually anywhere from two-week to three-month intervals, although most patients would benefit from monthly chiropractic checkups to maintain optimal health and wellness.
